Every week, we'll select Taiwan's five business news from the previous week for your review.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s economy is still likely to grow 7% this year if the war in Iran does not last too long, the National Development Council said Thursday. In March, the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics raised its forecast for 2026 gross domestic product growth to 7.71% from 3.54%. However, that was before hostilities erupted in the Middle East, triggering oil price increases likely to create energy supply problems and inflationary pressure.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan transforms into a playground for culinary imagination every April Fool’s Day. This year, the German Institute Taipei joined the fun with a post on Wednesday announcing a “Taiwan-exclusive” chocolate line. It claimed that German chocolate brand Ritter Sport would debut three new flavors inspired by local tastes: bubble tea, bitter melon, and radish cake.

Commercial property transactions surged in the first quarter, fueled largely by a major semiconductor factory acquisition, a report released by Colliers International Consultants Ltd’s Taiwan branch on Wednesday last week showed. Total transactions reached NT$99.3 billion (US$3.1 billion) in the first quarter, more than doubling from a year earlier and marking the highest quarterly level since Colliers began tracking the local market.

Taiwan’s trade and service sectors showed mixed performance in February 2026, according to data from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Sales in the wholesale trade reached $34.97b (NT$1,119.1b), up 6.8% compared with the same month last year, whilst retail trade sales totaled $11.96b (NT$383.1b), marking a 7.7% year-on-year increase.
