Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has fundamentally redrawn the geopolitical and operational map of the global technology sector. Following its blockbuster Q2 earnings report, TSMC Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei announced an additional $100 billion investment in its Phoenix, Arizona campus. This brings the company’s total planned U.S. commitment to an unprecedented $265 billion.

The American Institute in Taiwan on Friday incorporated a baseball game into an event marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and celebrating US-Taiwan ties. Taiwan Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao was invited to throw out the first pitch.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Economics Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) presided over the opening of Taiwan Expo in Tokyo on Wednesday. The second edition of the event in Japan from July 15-17 features 154 exhibitors, 15% more than the previous event, the Liberty Times reported. The Taiwan External Trade Development Council said the event could lead to business opportunities valued at NT$4.5 billion (US$140 million). Participating businesses are involved in drones, AI, and robots, officials said.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan will invest NT$673.8 billion (US$20.95 billion) to upgrade its airports in preparation for welcoming 100 million passengers in 2045, reports said Thursday. The National Development Council approved the proposal from the Ministry of Transportation and Communication Thursday, per UDN. The program aims to upgrade all 17 public airports in the country, turning them into the most competitive and resilient group of airports in East Asia, the ministry said.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Starlux Airlines' first Airsorayama Silver art-themed aircraft made its maiden flight to Phoenix on Tuesday, marking the aircraft's first long-haul service. The Airbus A350-1000-operated flight marked the North American debut of the carrier's collaboration with Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama, per the Commercial Times. The airline said the aircraft will begin regular service on routes to Phoenix, Tokyo, and Prague starting Oct. 1.
