The card the founder of Coupang, which posted more than 1 trillion won in operating losses in just the first half of this year, pulled out before investors was "Taiwan." On Aug. 5 (Korea time), Bom Kim, chair of U.S.-based parent Coupang Inc., devoted more than half of his opening remarks on the second-quarter earnings conference call to new businesses such as Taiwan dawn delivery, Coupang Eats' expansion into nonfood delivery, and Japan's RocketNow. The industry interpreted this as an attempt to shift the market's attention from profitability metrics to a growth narrative.
〔Taiwan News〕Taiwan domestic trips rise 11.5% in 2025
A total of 247.61 million domestic trips were made last year, an 11.5% increase from the previous year, while domestic tourism spending reached NT$564.3 billion (US$18.8 billion), up 9.4% year-on-year, according to a report released Monday by the Tourism Administration. The agency attributed the growth in part to the Cabinet's decision to add long holiday weekends during the second half of the year, encouraging more frequent domestic travel. The average number of trips per person increased to 11.65 last year, up from 10.46 in 2024. Same-day travel also became more common, accounting for 79.1% of all domestic trips.
