• 〔Focus Taiwan〕Taiwan, U.S. to boost semiconductor workforce cooperation: U.S. envoy

United States representative to Taiwan Raymond Greene on Monday announced new measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation on semiconductor workforce development, saying at an event in Taipei that the initiative would expand educational pathways to cultivate talent on both sides. "In doing so, we will not only deliver high-quality jobs for U.S. and Taiwan workers in critical sectors, but we will also grow and strengthen our enduring partnership," said Greene, director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), in his opening remarks at the Freedom 250 Workforce First Summit organized by the AIT.

Taiwan retailers are expanding sustainability efforts through initiatives that recycle store waste and improve access to everyday goods in underserved communities. The initiatives were showcased Thursday at the 5th Sustainable Development Goals Asia expo at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1, where Uni-President Enterprises Corporation presented an aquaponics system developed with a partner farm in Yunlin County’s Sihu Township, per CNA, The system is part of the company’s sustainable farm program, launched in 2023 to support agriculture through stable procurement and sustainable practices.

• 〔Focus Taiwan〕Foreign envoys attend Taiwan Ghost Festival ceremony at MOFA

Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung hosted a traditional Ghost Festival prayer ceremony in Taipei on Wednesday, with representatives from Taiwan's diplomatic allies and other friendly countries taking part for the first time. The ceremony, held ahead of the Ghost Festival, brought together envoys and representatives from Taiwan's 12 diplomatic allies and 12 other friendly nations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said in a press release Thursday. Traditional offerings of flowers, fruit and meat were displayed alongside items provided by participating countries, the ministry added.

• 〔Taiwan News〕Taiwan’s Foxconn buys California property for AI expansion

Foxconn's US subsidiary Q-Edge Corporation bought land and a factory in Santa Clara, California, to support an expansion of its AI business, reports said Thursday. The company spent NT$1.77 billion (US$55.25 million) on two plots totaling approximately 10,000 square meters, per UDN. Outside observers speculated that the investment was intended to support AI research and production and secure more business opportunities in the sector.
