Every week, we'll select Taiwan's five business news from the previous week for your review.

Dali Development Co. said Wednesday it has acquired Corridors Corporate Center in Arizona, for NT$592.79 million (US$18.6 million). The center in Phoenix’s Deer Valley area covers 7.18 acres, per Liberty Times. Dali said its subsidiary, Dali Corridors LLC, completed the purchase on Tuesday. The property is about a 14-minute drive from TSMC’s Arizona campus and is located in a business park occupied mainly by high-tech companies, per CNA. Dali said the area has benefited from TSMC’s investment in advanced chip fabs and the arrival of other semiconductor companies.

Taiwan has opened its newest office in the US, with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung traveling to Arizona for the inauguration. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Phoenix is Taiwan’s 14th office in the US and is located in a city that hosts two TSMC semiconductor fabrication plants and a growing network of Taiwanese suppliers. The new office is aimed at strengthening cooperation on critical supply chains between Taipei and Washington. Lin arrived in Phoenix on Saturday after visits to Belize and Guatemala, Taiwan’s two diplomatic allies in Central America.

Americans attending a Taiwan tourism promotion at a Southern California shopping center on Saturday praised the island for its friendly people, convenient lifestyle and safety. Taiwan’s Tourism Administration hosted a promotional event titled “100 Ways to Wonder” at Irvine Spectrum Center in Irvine, California, featured a traditional glove puppetry stage beneath a Ferris wheel, along with cultural displays showcasing sky lanterns and xiaolongbao soup dumplings. The Tourism Administration joined travel industry representatives and airlines, including China Airlines, Starlux Airlines and EVA Air, in setting up booths at the busy shopping center.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games officially concluded Sunday, ending two weeks of competition in which Taiwan won five gold, 17 silver, and 33 bronze medals for a total of 55. Taiwan finished 15th in the overall medal standings. The five gold medals marked the country's lowest gold-medal tally at an Asian Games since the 1990 Beijing Games, when Taiwan won no gold medals, per ETToday. The result was also a significant decline from the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, where Taiwan won 19 gold, 20 silver, and 28 bronze medals for 67 medals overall, ranking sixth.  However, the elimination of roller/inline sports, where Taiwan won seven gold medals, was a major reason for the decline.

Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk is discussing his Terafab semiconductor project with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., reports said Saturday. The Culpium website said a link was possible with recent reports that TSMC was looking to invest in Texas in addition to its current operations in Arizona. The Taiwanese chipmaker was likely to try to own and operate the Terafab plant, according to Culpium.
