Every week, we'll select Taiwan's five business news from the previous week for your review.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised Taiwan's 2026 economic growth forecast to 10.7%, up from 5.2% in April. That would make Taiwan the fastest-growing economy in Asia-Pacific and one of only three economies worldwide forecast to post double-digit growth. The fund released its latest World Economic Outlook report on Tuesday, forecasting global economic growth of 3.1% this year. Taiwan's projected growth is more than double Singapore's 5%, while Hong Kong is forecast to grow 3.8%, South Korea 3.3%, and Japan 0.7%.

Taiwan's government plans to develop industrial parks in the United States based on a model in which private businesses provide the funding while the government offers assistance, with each park costing US$2 billion to US$4 billion, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said Friday. The government will work with the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) to promote the initiative, the MOEA said. The comments followed a Bloomberg report published earlier Friday that Taiwan plans to develop industrial parks in the United States to build a comprehensive supply chain supporting Nvidia Corp. and other artificial intelligence (AI) hardware makers.

Construction of the Taichung Arena is nearly 20% complete and ahead of schedule, with underground excavation finished and work on the main structure underway. Taichung City Government said the focus will shift to above-ground construction as the venue takes shape. The project is progressing toward its 2030 completion target, according to a city press release.

In every country where it is played, baseball is a family-friendly sport. But in ballparks in Taiwan, on top of the emotional shifts that come with the game’s changing fortunes, there is a mood a bit like that in the video game Animal Crossing: relaxed, charming, and friendly, with the blending in of unique grassroots culture. This story, for which we especially consulted with super-fan Mini Lin, provides some observations.

Taiwan could begin exporting pineapples to the US as early as February 2027, with administrative preparations complete and final import rules still pending from US authorities, Agriculture Minister Chen Junne-jih said Wednesday. The US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) published a proposal outlining import requirements for Taiwanese pineapples in the Federal Register on March 3, per SET News. The public comment period has ended, but the US has yet to publish final rules.
