Amazon launched its Amazon Web Services Taipei Region on Thursday, announcing plans to invest over US$5 billion in its data centers in Taiwan.

New York, June 1 (CNA) Taipei has once again made it onto the top 100 list in the annual global cities index compiled by Oxford Economics, moving up five places from last year to be ranked the 60th best city in the world in 2025. The annual index was published in May following an evaluation of the 1,000 most populated metropolises, based on five indices -- economics, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance.

Taipei, June 6 (CNA) Taiwan and Finland's eighth trade and economic dialogue on Thursday focused on technology development and the circular economy, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). In a statement Friday, the MOEA said Taiwan's Deputy Economics Minister Cynthia Kiang (江文若) and Petri Peltonen, Finland's under-secretary of state at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, discussed technology issues such as telecommunications, digital health care, satellites, renewable energy, and circular economy development.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s pet care landscape is transforming with the rise of Fluv, a digital platform that connects pet owners with local pet sitters. According to estimates by the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, the country's pet industry reached NT$63 billion (US$2 billion) in 2023. The number of registered cats and dogs exceeded that of newborns by nearly 100,000, CNA reported.

During the Japanese colonial era (1895–1945), Taiwan was praised as Japan’s “model colony.” The Japanese government invested heavily in infrastructure and industrial development, which helped transform Taiwan from a farming society into a manufacturing hub. This laid the foundation for Taiwan’s later economic success.
