〔Taiwan News〕Taiwan rises to 4th in world competitiveness ranking
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan rose to fourth place in the Switzerland-based International Institute for Management Development's annual World Competitiveness Ranking. The ranking, released on Thursday, placed Singapore first, Hong Kong second, and Switzerland third, per CNA. Driven by strong GDP and export growth, as well as nearly a decade of institutional stability, Taiwan achieved its highest position.
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Google is expanding its Project Hatcher initiative in Taiwan, offering up to NT$11 million (US$350,000) in Google Cloud credits and broader technical and international support to help local AI ventures commercialize and scale globally, the company said Monday. Project Hatcher enters its third cohort, combining Google Cloud credits, AI expert guidance, and connections to more than 20 partners across industry, government, academia, and research, according to Google's Official Blog. The program aims to help teams overcome technical and cost barriers and turn AI into market-ready products while linking them to overseas capital and customers.
Taipei, June 16 (CNA) The Taiwan Research Institute (TRI), one of the leading economic think tanks in the country, has raised its forecast of Taiwan's gross domestic product (GDP) growth to 9.33 percent for 2026, citing robust global demand for AI applications. In a statement released Tuesday, the TRI said the new forecast represented a significant upgrade from the previous estimate of 3.46 percent that the institution made at the end of last year, as the local semiconductor and ICT industries are expected to get a significant boost from AI development.

The world's most powerful chip executives have been traveling to Taiwan with increasing frequency in recent years, transforming the computer trade show Computex into a global semiconductor pilgrimage. "TSMC is our best partner," AMD chair and CEO Lisa Su said during her visit to Taipei this year, when she announced that AMD would be the first company to mass-produce high-speed chips on TSMC's 2-nanometer process. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s endorsement was more personal, and based on what he said was an “intangible called trust.”
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The US edition of Yang Shuang-zi’s (楊双子) “Taiwan Travelogue” will be printed in Taiwan after the novel’s International Booker Prize win led to strong demand, CNA reported Wednesday. The Chinese-language edition has added 100,000 copies through reprints since the book won the award. Editions in the US, the UK, Japan, and other countries have also been in short supply.
