Taiwan is moving from a largely invisible supplier to a more influential global player as economic power increasingly shapes international trade, economist Roy Lee said Thursday. Speaking at an event in Taipei, Lee said the shift presents opportunities for Taiwan, whose technological, manufacturing and economic capabilities are gaining greater weight as the rules-based trading order weakens.
Taiwan’s Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection Co. has exported its toll payment system to India, reports said Wednesday. The first Multi-Level Free Flow toll system has begun operating in India, per CNA. The Indian government plans to convert 140 toll stations across the country, or 10% of its traditional toll stations, to the new system.
Taiwan recorded 4.29 million international visitor arrivals in the first half of 2026, up 2.3% from a year earlier, the Tourism Administration said Wednesday. Taiwan received 4,294,589 visitors from January through June, CNA reported. Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea were the three largest sources of visitors.

Apparel importer Collins Co. announced Friday that it is branching out into the restaurant sector by acquiring a majority stake in Hoyii Life Co. The NT$150 million (US$4.6 million) deal will give Collins an 82.8% stake in Hoyii, the Taiwan operator of Hong Kong dim sum chain Tim Ho Wan. The acquisition will bring Hoyii and its subsidiaries into Collins’ group operations, expanding the company’s portfolio beyond apparel trading and retail and into biotechnology and renewable energy, according to CTEE.
