Evolution of Taiwan’s Retail and Leisure Centers


This timeline showcases the first project of various themes in Taiwan’s retail and leisure development from 1994 to now. It illustrates how shopping environments have evolved from basic urban malls to highly curated lifestyle and entertainment destinations.


  • Pioneering Stage (1994–2000) Early projects such as The Mall, AseHome Design Center, and TaiMall introduced urban shopping centers, home design hubs, and regional malls with family entertainment elements, laying the groundwork for large-scale integrated retail.

  • Diversification & Theming (2003–2010) The market expanded with new formats: Nanshan Power Center brought the power center model, Taipei 101 set a benchmark for luxury shopping, and Huashan 1914 Creative Park blended culture with commerce. During this phase, transit-oriented malls like Global Mall, outlet concepts like EDA Outlet Mall, and themed venues such as The Grove, Taiwan enriched the landscape.
