Every week, we'll select Taiwan's five business news from the previous week for your review.

Cairo , April 22 (CNA) Egypt may offer a way out of the looming uncertainty caused by U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policy, according to a Taiwanese investor based in the country. Lo He-chieh (駱和傑), who established Elite Merchandising Corp. (EMC), a textile and ready-made garment factory, in Egypt in 2005, told CNA on Saturday that he received orders for an entire year after Trump announced new reciprocal tariffs on April 2 U.S. time.

Taipei, April 26 (CNA) S&P Global has affirmed its "AA+" long-term and "A-1+" short-term credit ratings for Taiwan, saying geopolitical unease is not expected to affect the local manufacturing sector's development over the long run. In a statement released earlier this week, the ratings agency said Taiwan's outlook over the long term is stable, which reflects its expectation that "structural demand for Taiwan's semiconductor exports is likely to offset growth issues associated with longstanding geopolitical tensions and evolving trade settings" over the next 24 months.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Google announced Tuesday that it signed a corporate power purchase agreement in March for Taichung’s Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm. The deal was signed in March through Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ CI V fund, marking Google’s first such purchase in Taiwan and expanding its clean energy portfolio, per a press release. The agreement will provide Google with reliable power to support its data centers and offices in the region.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Economic Affairs announced Wednesday that Taiwan’s retail sales reached NT$393 billion (US$11.9 billion) in March. The figure rose by 0.4% compared to last year's period, setting a record high for the month. The ministry attributed the growth to increased consumer spending surrounding International Women's Day and White Day, per CNA.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan City Government said Wednesday the city’s Green Line metro system is expected to begin operations in 2030. The Green Line is the first metro line independently developed by the city government. Its northern section, comprising seven stations, is scheduled to begin operations by the end of next year, per CNA.
