COMPUTEX Taipei 2025 kicked off May 19 with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang delivering the keynote address. Huang highlighted NVIDIA’s ongoing commitment to advancing AI infrastructure and applications, while leveraging Taiwan’s robust manufacturing ecosystem. A key announcement included the establishment of a new NVIDIA office, “NVIDIA Constellation,” in Beitou Shilin, Taiwan.


Taipei, May 18 (CNA) Taiwan's last operational nuclear reactor was shut down Saturday as its 40-year operating license expired, turning Taiwan into the "nuclear-free homeland" that anti-nuclear campaigners had long hoped for. The No. 2 reactor at Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant in Pingtung County began gradually reducing its electricity output after noon and was disconnected from the grid and safely shut down by Saturday night, with its power output reaching zero by around 10 p.m.


Taipei, May 21 (CNA) Indigenous singer Abao will set a major milestone when she performs at the three-day MTN Bushfire festival in Eswatini at the end of May, Taiwan's embassy in the African country said Wednesday. When the Paiwan singer performs on the event's main stage on the festival's second day of May 31, it will be the first performance by a Taiwanese artist at an international event in Africa, the embassy said in a statement.


Taipei/Paris, May 21 (CNA) French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed gratitude to Taiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. for its plan to invest approximately 250 million euros (US$278 million) in a joint venture in France focused on the semiconductor and space industries. On his official X account on Tuesday, Macron thanked Hon Hai, also known globally as Foxconn, for its investment projects announced at Choose France, a flagship economic summit held Monday to attract foreign investment.


TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tea Research and Extension Station under the Ministry of Agriculture said that it launched Taiwan's first AI-integrated black tea production line. According to the station, the initiative helps address labor shortages and the aging workforce. With the AI-driven production line, manpower requirements can be reduced by two-thirds, or even to a fully unmanned operation. The daily processing capacity for tea leaves has increased from four to eight tonnes, per CNA.
