TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tourism Administration Director-General Chen Yu-hsiu (陳玉秀) promoted Taiwan’s “smart inclusive tourism” approach at an APEC meeting Saturday, highlighting digital tools such as automated border gates and paperless entry to make travel easier. Chen represented Taiwan at the 13th APEC Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Macau, per CNA.

Taipei, July 1 (CNA) Taiwan is set to participate in the Freedom 250 Global Illumination, a light show initiative celebrating the United States' 250th birthday on July 4, with Taipei 101 and other iconic buildings to be lit up in the colors of the U.S. flag -- red, white and blue -- the de facto U.S. embassy in Taiwan announced Wednesday.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese buyers are fueling a surge in Japan’s luxury condominium market as a weak yen and shifting regional wealth flows boost property demand, Nikkei Asia reported Monday. Just 20 minutes by monorail from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, the waterfront district of Tennozu has become a hotspot for luxury condominium towers overlooking Tokyo Bay and the Shinagawa transport hub. For Taiwanese realtor Lin Chia-ching (林佳慶), who operates in Tokyo, Tennozu reflects a broader surge of Taiwanese participation in Japan’s property market. He said many clients are wealthy individuals from northern Taiwan seeking second homes or overseas diversification.

Carrefour in Taiwan is rebranding its hypermarkets to “Prosperity Plaza” and supermarkets to “Uni-Prosperity” following the grocery store chain’s exit from the French Carrefour system. This leaves Costco as the only foreign brand among Taiwan’s hypermarkets. The chain told CNA that “Carrefour” can only be used until this Tuesday, June 30, when its brand licensing agreement with the French headquarters expires. Beginning this Wednesday, July 1, they are only allowed to use the new names.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan secured a place in this year's Junior League Baseball World Series after Taoyuan's Hsin Ming Junior High School (新明國中) completed the Asia-Pacific qualifying tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. Hsin Ming defeated Japan in the championship game by a score of 14-0 to punch a ticket to the tournament in the US, which begins in August. Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng (張善政) welcomed the players and coaches at the airport on Sunday, praising their performance throughout the tournament in South Korea, per a press release.
