• 〔Taiwan News〕Taipei Main Station mall prepares for new operator

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Many stores at Taipei Main Station will close at 3 p.m. Friday to prepare for Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store Co. to take over the shopping mall the following day. In April, Taiwan Railway Corp. announced that Shin Kong Mitsukoshi had been selected as the preferred bidder to operate the complex. Breeze Development Co., the incumbent operator, ranked second in the bidding.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Sun Moon Pavilion, a high-end Taiwanese restaurant, opened Friday in the Clark Freeport Zone, about a two-hour drive north of Manila. CNA reported that the restaurant serves upmarket Taiwanese and Chinese dishes to business groups, tourists, and local diners. Officials, Philippine government representatives, and Taiwanese business leaders attended the opening ceremony.

• 〔Taiwan News〕Mets celebrate Taiwan Day with Kjell Lindgren, baseball league president

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren and Chinese Professional Baseball League President Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌) threw out the ceremonial first pitch Sunday at the New York Mets' 22nd Taiwan Day celebration, the longest-running Taiwan-themed event in Major League Baseball. Thousands of Taiwanese fans, many wearing Team Taiwan jerseys, filled Citi Field for the final game of the Mets' three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, per CNA. Lindgren took the mound wearing a blue NASA flight suit and a Mets cap, while Tsai wore a Team Taiwan jersey and carried a plush doll of the CPBL mascot Ohgau, the black dog.

• 〔Focus Taiwan〕Taiwan, U.K. sign MOU to boost bilateral drone industry exchanges

Taipei, July 27 (CNA) Taiwan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a British defense industry group to establish a platform for bilateral drone industry exchanges, the alliance behind the initiative said Monday. According to a statement from the Taiwan Excellence Drone International Business Opportunities Alliance (TEDIBOA), the MOU with ADS Group was reached on July 23 during the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom.

• 〔Focus Taiwan〕Taiwanese university students create mural for Klang community during KL visit

Kuala Lumpur, July 23 (CNA) Twelve Taiwanese university students selected to participate in a summer overseas expat experience in Kuala Lumpur concluded their journey on Thursday, with painting a mural in a Klang residential community the highlight of their program. The students painted a large mural in a residential community in the Malaysian city of Klang last Saturday, together with younger counterparts from the city's Pin Hwa High School. The Taiwanese university students planned and designed the art piece with the Malaysian high schoolers, combining cultural elements from both countries, such as the Formosan black bear and the Malayan sun bear.
