〔Taiwan News〕Taiwan passport world’s 37th strongest
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The British consultancy firm Henley and Partners has listed Taiwan’s passport as the 37th strongest in the world. In the latest Henley Passport Index, Singapore came in first place with a score of 193, per CNA. This means that passport holders can enter 193 countries without a visa or a visa on arrival.
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung Shin Kong Mitsukoshi's 25th anniversary sale generated NT$2 billion (US$62.6 million) on its opening day Thursday, recording the highest single-day revenue in the store’s history. The event, which is set to run through Nov. 9, marks the store’s first anniversary sale since a deadly gas explosion in February. The incident left five people dead and 38 injured. After more than seven months of repairs and safety inspections by the city government, the store reopened on Sept. 27.
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Three Taiwanese companies showcased their latest products and AI-powered customer service solutions at the Cosmetic 360 trade show in Paris. The two-day fragrance and cosmetics industry event, which began on Wednesday, featured more than 260 exhibitors and drew over 5,000 attendees worldwide. Centered on the theme “Predictions,” this year’s expo highlighted the growing role of technologies such as AI and digital twins in the cosmetics sector.
〔Focus Taiwan〕Regular wage growth hits January-August high in 25 years
Taipei, Oct. 14 (CNA) Taiwan's industrial and service sectors reported the highest growth in average monthly regular wages for the January-August period in 25 years, as employers across the board raised salaries, the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) said Tuesday. Data compiled by the DGBAS showed that the average monthly regular wage in the first eight months of the year stood at NT$47,709 (US$1,554), up 2.98 percent from a year earlier -- the fastest increase for the eight-month period since 2000, when wages rose 3.07 percent.
New Taipei, Oct. 14 (CNA) Taiwan's first National Archives, located in Linkou, New Taipei, has drawn more than 100,000 visitors since its soft opening on Sept. 2, featuring exhibits on the nation's high-tech development and documents by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) founder Morris Chang (張忠謀), according to the National Archives Administration (NAA). A centerpiece of the archives is the permanent exhibition "Island Reading: Our Story," which presents rare government records chronicling Taiwan's economic transformation and the roots of its high-tech industry in the 1970s and 1980s.
