Every week, we'll select Taiwan's five business news from the previous week for your review.

Taipei, Jan. 3 (CNA) Transactions of residential and commercial property in Taiwan's six largest cities hit an 11-year-high in 2024, driven by strong demand in the first six months of the year, according to local government data. The significant demand between January and June offset the impact of the seventh round of selective credit controls launched by the central bank -- which limited mortgage eligibility -- in the second half, data showed.

Taipei, Jan. 3 (CNA) The government is aiming to turn the southern region of Taiwan into a hub for artificial intelligence (AI) development and expand its applications in various sectors, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said in Tainan on Friday. Speaking about the newly approved "Southern Taiwan Silicon Valley Program," Lai said it will transform southern Taiwan into a hub for AI development and applications based on Taiwan's advantage in semiconductor and machinery manufacturing.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A new visa that enables digital nomads to stay in Taiwan for up to six months went into effect on Wednesday. The National Development Council held the "Taiwan Digital Nomad Visa Launch Ceremony" in Tainan City on Dec. 20. NDC Minister Liu Chin-ching (劉鏡清) said this is Taiwan's first initiative to recruit digital nomads, with Tainan being the starting point of the new program.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Super Micro Computer Inc. and Guo Rui announced plans on Dec. 25 to construct a computing center powered solely with renewable energy. At a meeting with Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), Super Micro President and CEO Charles Liang (梁見後) and Guo Rui Chair Lin Po-wen (林博文) announced plans to build a “pure green energy” computing center, per Liberty Times.
